The holidays provide so many opportunities to strengthen important relationships in your life. But it’s easy to miss those opportunities because of all the crazy that goes along with the holidays. In order to make the most of this time of year, it helps to take a little time to do some intentional thinking and planning.
Build a Sense of Belonging With Your Family
Family traditions are a great way to help your family bond together. Things that “we always do” create a sense of belonging within your family. And if that sounds overwhelming, it doesn’t have to be. Even simple things can become great memories that will last a lifetime.
Whether it’s creating a “thankful tree” on the wall for November… or having a Christmas Eve picnic in front of the fireplace… the holidays can be a great time for your family with just a little intentional planning.
Deepen Relationships With the World Around You
The holidays are also a great time to build relationships with friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. If we are to be a light to the world, we need to be in relationship with the people in our world. Not just acquaintances, but loving caring friends.
Take advantage of the opportunities the holidays provide to build and deepen those relationships:
- Bake a special treat to give to neighbors and others
- Host a holiday meal or open house
- Invite others to go with you to a local holiday event
Figure out what works for you – your personality and your schedule and your stage of life – and then find ways to intentionally connect with others.
Make the Most of the Time
Don’t miss out on the opportunities Thanksgiving and Christmas provide for strengthening your family and your relationships with the world around you. In the midst of all the busy-ness of the season, take some time to focus on what’s most important.
