Living In The Moment

A week ago Dave & I went to a reunion in our hometown. We had a great time reconnecting with 80+ “kids” that we used to hang out with at church and in a youth choir way back when we were all teenagers. It was so much fun seeing everyone again and sharing old memories and also making new ones.

Now
Where’s your focus?

As I’ve been reflecting back on the reunion, I’ve been thinking about how odd time is. We hadn’t seen most of those people for forty years, yet when we sat down to talk it seemed like just yesterday that we were singing at a Rescue Mission or hanging out at the lake or getting into some kind of trouble together.

How did all those years go by so fast? College then marriage then kids and jobs and Science Fair projects and soccer games. Then all the sudden you’re the Mother-of-the Bride and then…  grandma?!

Life happens. And it happens in the blink of an eye. Sometimes when things are particularly hard, it’s easy to forget that. But it’s true.

It’s been a good reminder to make the most of today. To cherish the memories of the past and to look ahead with excitement at whatever is up ahead (one of these days all your kids will be out of diapers! Woot woot!).  But most of all, we need to simply enjoy whatever phase of life we’re in right now. Because before we know it, it will be gone.
